OKAMOTO Reiji × GALLERY X & PARCO MUSEUM TOKYO| Know the importance of not only watching but also experiencing it on the spot.

A gallery that transmits all kinds of culture has been reborn and returns to Shibuya PARCO.

The new Shibuya PARCO enjoys not just shopping. It will give new discoveries and stimulus to lifestyles from various perspectives, such as eating and drinking, the stage, movies, etc. Among them, I would like to pay particular attention to the approach to art and culture. Gallerys with unique concepts are scattered throughout the museum, and there are many exhibitions that symbolize Shibuya's present day.
“GALLERY X” on the B1F, directly handled by Shibuya PARCO, was operating in the former Shibuya PARCO, but in 2016 it was moved solely to nearby Spanishzaka for rebuilding work. And in line with this reopening, we upgraded and returned. Reiji seems to have been visiting "GALLERY X" since the old building.

One day, I'd like to try "Yagi Exhibition" for 24 hours at Gallery X.

On the B1F "CHAOS KITCHEN" where "GALLERY X" is located, there is also a restaurant where a curtain is placed from midnight to dawn. Along with that, "GALLERY X" will also change business hours depending on the exhibition event. Reiji learned that, "I want to do YAGI in GALLERY X 24 hours a day. I think it would be interesting if DJs from all over Tokyo were spind in a replacement and put them all on MIX tapes." His term “YAGIBOY” refers to the event “YAGI EXHIBITION”, which is held irregularly, and is a DJ event that invites creators who interact with Reiji to sell and display clothes and art. The first time in 2017 was held 24 hours a day, non-stop, became a hot topic, and since then it has been held in various parts of the country. On November 27, at the grand opening of Shibuya PARCO, we crossed over with the second-hand clothing store "BOY" in Shibuya, and held a joint exhibition called "YAGIBOY". It was a great success in incorporating live performances, DJ play, and even flea markets. “The YAGIBOY Flyer was designed by Indonesian illustrator Dwiky Ka, whom I found on Instagram. I think that I have incorporated my own humor into my work with an exquisite pop feeling, and I have a sense that no one can imitate. I didn't know, but when I offered a design, I was happy to accept it. I hope you will come to Japan someday and have a solo exhibition at GALLERY X.”

The exhibition in which the two galleries are linked, impressed by the thorough spatial production and precious original drawings.

At "GALLERY X", where Reiji's desire to do things is piled up, art exhibition "AKIRA ART OF WALL Katsuhiro Otomo x Kosuke Kawamura AKIRA ART EXHIBITION" is being held in conjunction with the gallery space "PARCO MUSEUM TOKYO" on the 4th floor. In "GALLERY X", a huge object of the appearance of Tetsuo, the character of "AKIRA", is displayed, and the creative team YAR led by graphic artist Yoshirotten creates the space. “Anyway, the film and music show is so cool! I like the dark places with good music like live houses and clubs, so it was so comfortable that I wanted to stay here all the time,” Reiji says. Next, we went to PARCO MUSEUM TOKYO on the 4th floor. Here, works that re-collige the ART WALL installed during the renewal work, to original drawings, posters, and chairs that appear in the work are displayed. "It was cool to make the space itself a work too! Also, Mr. Kawamura's original collage painting was good. You were cutting such thin lines and doing delicate work,” he said with excitement.

Connection with collage artist Kosuke Kawamura.

Kosuke Kawamura, a collage artist who teamed up with Katsuhiro Otomo at this exhibition, and Reiji has been interacting for a long time. "I've been getting along with Mr. Kawamura since about eight years ago. At Kawamura's house, I used to make collages together, and I printed a T-shirt designed by Kawamura by hand. Please include works that collaborated with me in the collection of works by Mr. Kawamura. When I saw the original collage drawing of AKIRA, I felt a gap because I knew his personality, and I once again realized Mr. Kawamura's absurdness. I realized that I really like art and can't help it."

I want you not only to see it in photos and videos, but also to experience it with your own skin.

"When I visited GALLERY X and PARCO MUSEUM TOKYO, I felt the power and power of life, which is not conveyed by photos and videos, as well as music. If you see it on the SNS that someone has uploaded, I think it will be understood, and when you see it directly, the power is completely different." As Reiji says so, by feeling the atmosphere in the field with your own skin, it enriches your sensitivity.
